Posting images - a quick introduction

Post by Peaceand » Mon Feb 20, 2012 10:00 pm

Hopefully this will be very simple, the easiest way to upload a single photo from your computer to this forum is to use the Attachment feature. You'll find this below the text editing area when you post a new message, it's the tab next to Option.

Click on browse, find the file on your computer, then click "Add the file", it'll take a couple of moments to upload. When it's finished you can click "Place inline" to include the image in your post. If you add a "File comment" then it'll show that as a caption below the image.

Like so:

Obviously this takes up space on our server, so we've had to restrict the file size, and if we run out of space then old attachments will have to be removed, which may detract from the original meaning of posts.

If you are able, setting up a photobucket (or similar) account for your photos is a better alternative. That way your photos are safe, will never be deleted by us, are accessible from anywhere in the world, and can sill easily be inserted into posts by using this bit of code:

Code: Select all

If you are having trouble, leave a message in the "Forum problems and suggestions" area.

Cheers,
Patrick

Hi Ian,

The limits are currently set at 1500x1500 pixels.
That's around 400kb to 800kb for a jpg picture.

The best maximum size though is around 1000 pixels wide, otherwize the picture won't fit on some screens and the whole thread after that will have horizontal scroll bars :thud:

There's also a limit to the number of pictures per post - currently 20.

These can be adjusted by us if needed, though if everyone posts high res pictures of 3Mb or more, we'll soon run out of server space :embarassed:

As Patrick says in his post, it's easy to set up a photobucket account, upload pictures there and link to them. That way you don't need to worry about resizing each picture

Cheers,
Robin.
