Hello from West Yorkshire

Post by juliek21 » Sun Sep 04, 2016 9:33 pm

Good evening. Last weekend I went to Leafers' at'Tpit in Wakefield and on the first day I bought a new tyre, a clapped out canvas chair and the centre piece for my Series III steering wheel. I went back on Sunday and in the space of 30 minutes had fallen in love with a 1965 Series IIA camper, sold my Series III to a friend and had to have a strong cup of tea to recover from the shock.
I am now the very proud owner of what was described as a Dormawagon by its previous owner. It has a Dormobile roof and was kitted out as a camper with two beds, sink, cooker etc probably around 20 years or so ago.
I am not going to give it a complete restoration just yet- it doesn't need one. Brakes need replacing, gas and electrics need checking and the interior needs a freshen up and we're good to go.
Am going to give the exterior a coat of paint over the winter, probably bronze green and limestone .
Would like to fit a leisure battery and am looking at the possibility of a small fridge but the ones I've seen are horribly expensive so may stick with a coolbox.
I'll probably have lots of questions over the coming months and hope to meet up with some of you in due course.

Hi Julie,

Yes, we know the vehicle well - it was owned by a member on here

Ask away, we're a friendly lot :tiphat:

Cheers,

Hi Julie,

Welcome to the forum and Domawagon ownership.

Have a look on ebay etc for a second hand compressor fridge over the autumn/winter period as prices drop then, thats how we got ours. A coolbox with a couple of ice packs will do for a weekend, but don't bother with the 12v ones as they are no better than useless. You have time now to get the vehicle how you want it ready for all the trips you will be able to do next year !

Hi Julie,

Welcome! Looks like a good buy. I'll second Ian's comments about 12v coolers - been there, done that and now have a fridge. Much better! I would love to see some pictures of the interior as although, as Robin says, it is well known to you guys on the list, us folks from far-off places are always looking for ideas. Good luck with your Dormawagon!

Thanks - will post photos next week when the interior has been spruced up. We're going up the North York Moors the weekend after next so I'm determined to have it looking smart by then.
Thanks for the advice re the fridge - if anyone knows of, or sees one for sale at a good price I'd appreciate a heads-up

Hi Julie,

We're having a camp at Cropton, near Pickering, at the end of September.

We'd love to welcome you there

See HERE for details, or drop me a message.

Cheers,
Robin.

Hi Julie,
I think I spotted the Dormawagon in Warmfield on my way to work this morning (I drive by Simon Services, so I'm guessing that's where you were heading).
Always nice to see a camper on the road!

Welcome form the Derby end of things.

No fancy pop up roofs here, just a tatty old ambulance with dream potential and an 109 destined for conversion.

Hi Julie
Welcome to the joys of Dormobile camping. I must admit that heating is a higher priority for me than a fridge/coolbox! When I was in Islay at the end of April I woke up to snow on two mornings. A hot water bottle and two dogs were a little insufficient. Plenty of good camping and scenery to be had North of the Border too.
cheers
Sheila
