It's an original "BrownChurch" rack, it still has the badge on the front too which says - Brownchurch - Land Rover Specialist - London

So I assume it was fitted as an extra by Martin Walter at the factory , unfortunately I hit a rather large kangaroo and it's bent one of the front uprights and dented the headlamp guard  I'm hoping that I can get it straightened out and repaired one day

Dan

We couldn't manage in our Dormobile without the box on our roof rack for storing all the bedding etc. Yes, it could be fitted in the back, but everytime you wanted to make a brew or have lunch, it would have to be moved. The first thing we learnt was for the Dormobile to work, the back must be kept clear, everything must be stored away or left at home.

As there is only three of us, we do use the rear O/S seat for storage, but even using this, it is still very tight when you are going away for two weeks or in the case of our Morocco trip, four weeks.

Since Morocco, I have added another box to the roof to increase storage, to reduce the amount of stuff we have to move about and make each trip less hard work.

Cheers Mick,

I will maybe try and fashion something aerodynamic to go on the roof rack? I understand what you are saying regarding storage, I did contemplate hanging cargo netting inside but see your comments regarding lunch etc.. I am hoping that my forthcoming engine improvements will help reduce MPG, so it should all balance out. I do like my roof rack and Alex advocates carrying two spare wheels.... I need to weigh up the pro's and con's of loading...

Hi Dan

The Dormobile is top heavy IMHO, so we load the heavy items as low as possible and put the light/bulky items on the roof rack. If your doing a serious trip, you cannot beat proper roof boxes. They are aerodynamic and more importantly, don't leak. The only downsides are the cost and they look bad on a classic vehicle.

This has got me thinking!!

And me Mick, spent about 2 hours online yesterday trying to find a suitable roof box to fit on a dormy roof rack (like mine), no joy, most are to big and Pele cases are to small! I need to sort this out, as it is going to be a serious trip around Europe.

Would a wooden frame with ply cladding & angled metal over the exterior corners work? End shape a bit like Robin's box. Lid would have the angled metal too which might keep the water out. Should be fairly secure and decorators caulking would mean you can paint/varnish the outside.
Put something like this http://www.idealo.co.uk/compare/2224112 ... 120-l.html inside for an extra layer?

Edit - corners like this https://www.makewav.es/story/286638/tit ... ttrreasure Think the parrot might be an optional extra....
