Carawagon - Bed Layout

Post by PhilC » Thu May 19, 2016 7:49 pm

Hi All,

I’m wondering if anyone can give me some advice about putting my bed together in my Series 3 Carawagon Continental?
Using photos from old brochures I can get the rear section put together fairly easily and if I fold the back of the driver’s seat down the base cushion from it seems to fit fairly well on top of that; so far so good. The centre section however is another matter – currently the cushion is too low:

Looking at other online brochures (including one on here) it appears I may be missing some sort of wooden frame for the centre cushion to sit on top of in order to bring it up to the same height as the rest of the bed - should this frame be present or am I missing something totally obvious?:

While I’m on there’s currently a gaping hole under the centre cushion with a wooden surround; I’ve found tool tray’s available online which are designed to sit in the centre but looking at the rather homemade style of the frame I’m guessing something else went in there – anyone have anything similar in there’s?

Sorry for all the questions – any advice gratefully received.

Cheers,
Phil

Yes, you are missing a wooden cubby box which would bring the seat cushion up to the correct height.

The cubby box was an option, as was a porta-potti which would fit in the cubby box = I wonder if the hole underneath was for something like that?

It should be easy to make a wooden cubby box, I would think

Patrick's Continental still has the centre seat, with a tool tray underneath, which folds the same as the driver's seat for the bed.

Cheers,
Robin.

That's a useful pic, thanks. My seats are bolted in so they don't currently fold down. Looking at the first image I need to bolt the front hole to the top of the bracket and the back hole is to stop the seat folding backwards in use.

I like this forum.

Each thread contains a small lesson on our chosen specialist subject.

It's like an online MA for Land Rover chaps.

I will require an extension for my dissertation though, please, Prof.

Hi Robin – thanks very much for that, that strange shaped hole makes sense at last  I've looked up some vintage porta-pottis on the internet and the way they are shaped on the base looks like they would slot right into that gap
To be honest though I think with the height that I am I'd struggle to 'use' that space so may just convert it back into a centre seat with tool tray underneath (making a cubby box would require some DIY skills far beyond mine :embarassed: )

Rob – glad you found the photo helpful – if you need any others of the various fixtures and fittings just let me know.

Cheers,
Phil

But if you put a collar on the gear stick it'd be perfect to hold the roll.....

Seems like a perfect place for the loo. You can just keep driving, just shift to the middle.

If the vehicle is moving, you can use the flush.
