Hello from South Africa
Hi,
I have just purchased a series 2a 1968 carawagon continental (I think) it was driven down to SA in the late 60's and did one or two trips into Mozambique and Botswana but has been stored now for almost 20 years. My plan is to restore back to original specification. Info available:
Series 2a 109"
Chassis number 35100288D
Engine number 345051228 - 2.6 litre
Colour Brown/Cream
Lots of extras that may or may not be original, I'll post some pics
Thanks
Karl

Absolutely fabulous, Karl
Another rare Continental to add to our list - you might know that most Carawagons were built on 2 door bases, and Station Wagon versions are pretty rare.
I think that makes about 5 that we know about now
I'm looking forward to seeing pictures, especially of the inside, to compare with Patrick's Continental which we restored about 3 years ago (was a 'barn find' in bits).
Cheers,
Robin.

Hi guys,
Exciting stuff.....I know very little about carawagons other than what I have read on the internet in the last week. I will try and post some pics. Just need to resize images that I took when I purchased the car

Re: Hello from South Africa
Very interesting dashboard
Don't change the outside colour though - I like brown & cream
The interior looks in very good condition - have you tried lifting the roof yet to see what state the roof woodwork and hinges are in? Although looking at the state of the rest of the vehicle it I suspect it will all be in good order.
There's something to be said for living in a warmer climate
I'd be very interested in pictures of the cupboard interiors - Patrick's came with a 're-modelled' one, supposedly made by a carpenter using the old one as a pattern. We don't think it's a very good attempt though, and there was no sign of the original unit when we got to it
As Continentals are so rare, I think yours is the first one I have seen with what looks like an original cupboard!
I assume your cooker is on the back door?
Cheers,
Robin.

Re: Hello from South Africa
Hi Robin,
Dash is rather different but looks original, I'm guessing that the original Colour was a light grey as this is the colour in the engine compartment. I haven't tried extending the roof yet as hinges were a little stiff, will give it a go tomorrow. Will also take more pics of the interior, can't seem to post images on the forum due to size.
On inspection I have found the following:
Spare wheels on back door & bonnet
Seats are black vinyl
Large toolbox full of tools & spares between headlights
Large storage locker between front seats
Storage space under rear seat full of spares, tools etc.
5 seater
lockable glove box to right of steering wheel
2 x indicator levers ?
Smiths heater/demister
2 x fuel tanks
Window blinds
Jerrycans brackets on front bumper in front of wings
Large tent
2 plate gas stove on back door (2 gas bottles left rear storage)
2 roll out nylon bunks
Fluorescent interior lights
Dual battery charging system
Roof carrier over windscreen
Dual air horns
Dual automatic cooling fans
Side steps
Wing and bonnet protection (rubber)
"Carawagon" mudflaps
Rear elevated working lights
Unusual tow hitch configuration........
will look for more stuff tomorrow ! I can email larger images if you're interested
regards
Karl
