Walter the Dormobile
Re: Walter the Dormobile
Mine too is on a normal runner (I assume - my first landy, but there is no knob at the front). I couldn't get it to slide off of the runners either, I ended up removing them with it in some awkward way. It would be great to see a proper photo of what should be under the driver's seat, just in case i'm being exceedingly stupid (very possible!) .

Jerry, can you remind us what year your vehicle is ?jerryd wrote:Your driver's seat assembly/runners doesn't look standard equipment, the seat runners should have a 90 degree slotted angle at the front
My dormy was converted in '66' and internally looks identical to Colin's. The driver seat arrangement is definately the same as his and Ant's. Michiel's is a later vehicle and if his driver seat is also mounted on a swing- up frame like yours, then maybe this is an upgrade introduced by the factory (there were one or two) ?
Colin,
Looking at the size of the square hole in your seat box, I would hazard a guess that a flap/hatch was added to give access to the top of the gas bottles. Normally this either requires the drivers seat lifted, or to lie on your back and reach up from underneath (which still needs a fair bit of arm/hand dexterity). Obviously this could have had the patch riveted on when the extra fuel tank was fitted.

Re: Walter the Dormobile
Hi Ian, my dormobile is a 1976 conversion, although fitted with a double passenger seat it also came with a single front passenger seat. I'll have to take a few pics of the front seat assemblies.
Here's a pic I found on the dormobile forum of a passenger seat , pretty sure it's a 2a conversion but is slightly different to mine. Maybe they had different makers of the seat assemblies

Re: Walter the Dormobile
Here are the promised photos.
Bear with them as the seat is not fitted at the moment, but you will get the idea.
Hope this helps.

Re: Walter the Dormobile
To answer the question on the issue what should below the drivers seat...
There should be a bracket assembly for the gasbottles. The hatch gives also access to the fuelpump mounted on top of the chassis rail. It fits 2 bottles.

Re: Walter the Dormobile
Here are some photo's from my double skin on the roof. I believe that your brackets may be for something else, yet they may be for a double skin that uses a different method of fixing? The only thing is I couldn't take a picture between the ribs, so I may have the same brackets after all. I'll try to do that at another time.

Re: Walter the Dormobile
If you take a look at the Dormobile brochure in the Technical & Workshop section, you can see a pic of a S3 with two single front seats. Maybe someone can confirm if a double front seat (and double bed) was still an option ? The current Dormobile Defender does not have the double seat/bed option and places a much bigger cubby box between the front seats.jerryd wrote:it also came with a single front passenger seat. Your picture of the S2a seat is exactly how my Dormy's looks and I strongly suspect Colin's and Ant's.
Any chance you or Michiel could post a photo of the hinge fittings for the drivers seat ? I already feel another project coming on !

Picture below shows my seat runners.
From the colour of the bracket the runners are bolted through it looks like genuine Dormobile.

Yep, that's exactly what my Dormy's runners look like (with all the bolts).Gromit wrote:Picture below shows my seat runners.
