Carawagon on Gumtree Australia

Post by Gromit » Tue Mar 03, 2015 9:29 am

I think this one came up on Ebay a while ago.

http://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/ballarat ... 1062135288

Fitted with a Holden motor which is quite common over here (cheaper than reconditioning the original LR motor). Not sure about only two in existance in Australia but who knows........

I'm no expert on Carawagons but it doesn't look like an original conversion to me

Hi Jerry,

That's what we suggested as a possibility last time it came up.

Of course it is possible that it was taken to Searle and just had the roof added there and the customer did the rest. After all, Searle were bespoke converters who would do whatever the customer wanted.

Though it's also possible that someone lifted the roof off a dead Carawagon, dropped it on another vehicle, then did a DIY interior conversion

Cheers,
Robin.

Looks like a home-brew conversion using a much later roof. The later style roof windows, the bar clamps and the roof vents in the lower half of the end panels all shout out mid-late 70s to me.

Still, looks a good usable motor!
