Hi all if I cut the bulkhead in line with the wheel box tops will i need to add any strengtheners?
I plan on cutting it where the middle galvanized strip meets the outer part which the roof bolts to.
I plan to use a removable bar across where the bulkhead was to suport the seats but then when camping I can use the extra space for a bed
Cheers Simon

Re: cutting the bulkhead
G'day Simon, from memory there was a guy who made such a brace that could be left in place all the time or it might have been an original fitment on an 88 i can't remember but someone will be along soon with a better memory than i.
With the opening of doors due to flex on my 88 i just cut out the center section but replaced the angle using anti loose pins of an old body so it was easy to remove and stopped the doors flying open at the most inopportune moment especially for the passenger because i had the steering wheel to hang on to.
I have made a couple of complete strengtheners very much like the safari's have but drop down along the floor and up again with gussets welded in that and in my eyes saved me a fortune and was very substantial also when i would be Marshaling at events not once did the doors fly open like they did when i had not completed the job and went off to a trial to either help set up or get in place while others hammered sometimes at high speed round the course.
Catch you later. R-Rose

Re: cutting the bulkhead
Thinking I may make a frame up to run along the gap and then add a bar from side to side so that the seat backs have support

Re: cutting the bulkhead
The Carawagon bulkhead is actually cut right down to the floor level, and replaced by a piece of approx. 1" blockboard, bolted at each end.
You can see it here:
Searle's Carawagon was a Land Rover factory approved conversion so I'm sure it must be strong enough
Cheers,
Robin.
