G'day chaps, although that may sound good i some how have a sneaky feeling it might lead up to either limited mileage or some thing along those lines, not using my old truck as my every day vehicle and form of therapy is something i really don't want to think about .
I don't trust the power's to be but i some how remember when riding my chop Matchless year's ago i was thinking the same thing , i just hope i am wrong and talking dribble as normal.

Without doing the maths, I am guessing that most engine change vehicles will always need an MOT - unless you add a lot of weight at the same time.

Probably a good thing though, MOTs are worthwhile (if you have a nice tester that is sympathetic to older vehicles).

Makes you laugh a 200tdi doesn't require chassis modification so can revert back without any problem but I could replace a 2.25 petrol with an engine within the 15% power limit and need to make heavy chassis modifications yet according the them that is ok.

It's a shame they can't just leave the points system as is, and then change the MOT to a Historic Safety Check. The HSC can have a more sensible level of checks (ie brake balance & emissions) but more careful corrosion damage checking.
Based on the current documentation, I think my Carawagon (assuming it's ever finished) just makes it within 15% as it's a 2.5l petrol (I've about 1hp spare!) and the Bitsa 88" is fine as it's all "period" replacements. Both will be getting an annual check over if they become exempt.

for me it's not so much the MOT exemption for the cars but the bigger stuff that is not used for hire and reward that is better as currently a class 5 MOT is £80 but I can get a safety check for about half that
