Gathering in Normandy 2016.1st - 4th June.
Hi all
it's the that time of year again and time to start booking Ferries/Tunnel for our spring half term dash to Normandy. This year is the 100 birthday of the Cub Scouts and William is going to celebrate with all the other North Yorkshire Cubs at a special Camp at Pateley Bridge the first weekend of half term. This means that this year we are going mid week and invite anyone who wished to join us. We will be traveling down to the Tunnel Tuesday the 31st May 2016 and crossing late evening, We will probably stopping on the Aire de Service in Boulonge sur Mer and that will be the first rally point for anyone that wishes to join us. We will be there until 10.00am.
As normally we will then be driving down the Autoroute (as short a time as sensible) to Forge les Eaux and stopping at the Dia Supermarket to stock up on food and to buy lots of wine to test (we get several different bottle to find out which ones to buy a case of on the way home). This discount supermarket has great fruit, veg and a fully butchery counter. The supermarket is the second rally point and we would have a bit to eat here, but would aim to leave about 1.30pm for the campsite. The campsite is only another 40 mins driving through the lovely gently rolling Normandy countryside.
The Campsite is on the edge of the lovely very small market town of Lyons la Foret. Lyons la Foret is well know in France as a place to go and be seen. It has been the place to go for over a 1000 years as William the Conqueror was a frequent visitor and the English and French kings fought over it for years. Only 800 people live in this very sleepy town today, but there are several bars and restaurants, including one with a Michelin star. The two bar tabac and creperie offer good value dining, but 38 euros for a Michelin star dinner is pretty good value in my opinion. Not that I have been, maybe this year?

Camping fee for three of us in our Dormobile last year was £13 a night, The site is very clear with heated facilities and lots of hot water. Look at the pictures from 2015 to see the site in the sun

We will be leaving Saturday morning, but you a can stay as long as you like.
Any questions, please ask.
Cheers Mick

G'day chaps, i always read these type of posts with envy but enjoy them just the same the only difference being i never planned anything and just went with the need to travel and maybe a badge at the end of it.
Of course my traveling was done on my Matchless chop so not as well equipped as you guys but with dose bag on the front tent against my cissy bar behind my seat the same frying pan i still use today 40 odd years later but then was clipped round a bungy strap of course not forgetting Beans-Rice Pudding and a bottle of golden nectar {Whiskey}.
I know you enjoy your travels like i did but i look forward to the pictures AlexB putting up my favorite so i can get my fix although i didn't use camp sights wild camping as it is known now to me was always better even with my late father and i resorting to camping on a disused gas station forecourt because we were lost .
Catch you later. R-Rose

Hi Trev
The ethos of being in a club/group/forum is to share knowledge and help each other get the most from there Land Rovers. I'm very happy to hold your hand on this one.
Here are the things you must do:
1. First thing is do you have a passport? If not, get one ASAP.
2. Check you have European breakdown cover?
3. You need to go on-line and get your E-111 European Health Insurance Card. It's free.
4. Book your vehicle onto Eurotunnel. Out 22.50 on 31/05/16. Return 14.50 on 04/06/16.
For the rest of the trip, we just need to arrange a time and place to meet. Then you just follow us.
Cheers Mick
