Re: Carawagon Curtains
Hi Drew,
I'm pretty sure I saw on an original price list that the curtain rails were an optional extra, and that curtains were to be supplied by the customer.
Unfortunately I can't see that on the price lists I have to hand now
Perhaps that changed over the years as I think it would have been easier for Searle to have the curtains made to a pattern rather than telling customers to maker their own, but I must admit, all of the Carawagons I've seen with curtains have been different material and colours!
Mine has what I assume are original (at least to my Carawagon) - they are certainly showing their age with fading and are quite threadbare in places - and are a soft dark green heavy cotton material.
Some Carawagons had roller blinds instead of curtains, but again they were an optional extra.
Hope that helps,
Robin.

Re: Carawagon Curtains
The curtains at Owner discretion will make sourcing appropriate material significantly easier.
Many thanks Robin

Re: Carawagon Curtins
Hi Drew,
Apologies for the delay in replying but I recently rediscovered the curtains that came with my 1972 Carawagon - they seem to be authentic for the period (as they are suitably hideous) but I can't say for certain that they're the ones originally fitted.
Cheers,
Phil

Re: Carawagon Curtins
If you have new ones made, make sure the outer fabric is UV resistant, and the stitching thread is waterproof!
My lovely new red curtains 6 years ago are now badly faded from the sunlight, and the red thread used has stained the white lining pink where it's got damp at various times.
They do however block out a lot of light, so still serve their purpose.
