What is this bracket for?
What is this bracket for?
I just can't work out what the bracket beneath the rear end door keep is for.
Looks like something is intended to be slid into it.
Any help much appreciated.
Kind regards

Re: What is this bracket for?
There should be the equivalent 'wedge' attached to the door, made of brass.
It acts as a locator to keep the door in the correct position when closing it.
I'm sure someone will be along with a picture and possibly a part number
Cheers,
Robin.

Re: What is this bracket for?
Thanks for that Robin.
Looks like the wedge on my door is long gone so another Dormobile bit to find some time.
Kind regards
Chris

Not Dormobile - a standard land rover bit

Re: What is this bracket for?
Yes, I should have said, it's not specific to Dormobiles.
Strange how some vehicles have them and others don't
I think at least two of my Carawagons and Patrick's Carawagon have them.
I wonder if it was fitted where a spare wheel was mounted to the rear door as standard (and that probably includes all Dormobiles and Carawagons as there's no space inside for one!).
That would make sense as it would prevent the weight of the wheel causing the door to drop when closed.
Cheers,
Robin.

Re: What is this bracket for?
Could be they were all fitted with them but they've been lost over time. Pretty sure the one on my 88" has a plate on it rather than the slot - will try and get a picture when the garage return her.
Re: What is this bracket for?
Yep, it helps take the weight of the spare wheel off the door lock.
To infirmary and beyond!
Re: What is this bracket for?
Thanks for all your kind help.
My series 2A parts book clearly shows the male and female dove tails for the rear door.
There's been a number of Dormobile bits missing from AKM 217K that I've had to have made up so I just thought this was going to be another one!!
Happy days.
Chris

Thanks for your kind offer of help.
The bracket is now redundant and has been removed having fitted a new rear Defender door with anti burst locking.
Kind regards
