Hello from Suffolk

Post by Spider » Sun Apr 29, 2012 10:03 pm

Hi all,
I am a big Land Rover fan form Suffolk with a family that loves camping.
So to join the fleet, we spent quiet a lot of time looking for a Series II Dormobile and gave up.
I dropped on to and Series IIa 109 CSW that needed saving from the corner of the farm yard where it had laid since the late 80’s, so then came plan “B” (hope plan “B” does not up set all the original Dormobile owner out there but like I said can not find an old one that was how I wanted it).

Plan “B” is to start from the ground up and restore the Series IIa 109 into a Dormobile.
The Parts that are sitting in the workshop ready for the space and time to start getting on are (it has taken 2 years to get all the bits together so far),
Dormobile roof (fitted to a 110 roof, but needs fitting into a Series roof)
Dormobile seats need retriming.
Pile of Series IIa panels (flat packed the 109 CSW from the farm yard).
300 Tdi engine.
5 Speed Defender gearbox.
Part time 230 transfer box.
Parabolic springs.
One ton wheels.

Now all that is needed is a new chassis and lots of time!

Hope to make new friends that share the love of travelling in Land Rovers on here and find the time to get on with this project, so I can go travelling in Series style.

Sounds like you've got a big project going on there, but it will be worth it in the end

Good luck, that is a real project.

Don't worry about upsetting anyone. We will all be glad the parts have been saved and a new dormobile created :tiphat:
